Twenty years ago, Monique was living with her mother in Northern California and attending a youth group at her church.
She didn’t know her father and knew she was pregnant through an unplanned pregnancy.
Now 17, she found out she was pregnant. To her shock, she realized she wasn’t even sure who her father was.
Monique instinctively knew that abortion was wrong, so she ruled it out as an option. Having taken her leadership role in her youth group, she made the mature and responsible decision to resign from her position and share the reality of her situation.
“Everybody knew me as a good person,” said Monique. “You’re the last person we thought we’d hear!” ”
Monique’s mom went through the same situation and supported her pregnancy.
As such, Monique was unsure if she would be able to become a mother to this child as a high school student while eating right and taking prenatal vitamins every month.

Amazingly, Monique didn’t have to look far to find the perfect family for her child.
Her sister, who is 15 years older, was married with two girls. She and her husband wanted a boy. As soon as her mother-in-law heard that Monique was going to have a baby boy in a few months, she said, “That’s your baby!”
The rest, as they say, is history.
Monique, her sister and brother-in-law found a Christian adoption agency and the baby’s father agreed to sign papers to release the child for adoption. Caleb is now Monique’s nephew!
Six months after he was born, the entire family moved to the same community in Arkansas. Monique has since married and she has two children. Just recently, when his eldest daughter turned 7, Monique decided to talk about her cousin’s background.
Today, Caleb is 18 years old and a part of Monique’s family life.
“He found out at Sanctuary of Life Sunday when he was seven that I wasn’t just an aunt, he was his birth mother,” Monique said. I have.”
Monique’s experience is now put to good use for others in her role as an education coordinator. Informed Choice Women’s Center of the Ozarks At Mountain Home, Ark.
She teaches Earn While You Learn classes and gives one-day presentations on personality, boundary setting, STDs, red flags, youth groups and school abstinence. She also offers a pregnancy and parenting course, ‘Love Lesson’, for youth groups.
In another twist, Monique recently found her father through DNA.
He didn’t even know she existed and was so excited to meet her that he introduced her to her half-brother and other relatives he didn’t know she had!
Today, they are in regular contact and Monique is surrounded by love from all sides.
