Widely regarded as the greatest CrossFit athlete of all time, Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr is pregnant with her first child with coach and husband Shane Orr.

Toomey-Orr, 29, will break Mat Fraser’s five-year record in August 2022, becoming the only athlete to win six consecutive CrossFit Games.

In an exclusive interview with Insider, the six-time fittest woman on the planet said she won’t be competing in the 2023 competition in August because it’s scheduled for early May.

Pregnancy was ‘best’ surprise, says Toomey-Orr

She also said the pregnancy was a surprise.

“Having a family with Shane was something we always wanted, but my competitive career took over,” said the Australian athlete.

But finding out she was pregnant was the “greatest” surprise, Toomey-Orr said.

Pregnancy was the biggest surprise, says Toomey-Orr.

“I’m very excited. I can’t wait,” Toomey-Orr said. “You should have seen Shane’s face when I told him, I’ve never seen him so happy.”

After competing in the August 2022 competition, Toomey-Orr entered the offseason. She said she felt like she was getting emotional “all over the place” and her hormones had “goed through the roof.”

Thinking he might have adrenal fatigue, Toomey-Orr underwent several medical tests. Doctors immediately told Toomey-Orr what was really going on: she was pregnant.

Toomey-Orr said she never suspected anything because she always puts on a little extra weight during the offseason.

Toomey not sure if mother will return to competitive CrossFit

After Toomey-Orr’s record-breaking sixth consecutive CrossFit Games win, many wondered whether she would retire or challenge for seventh place.

Before her pregnancy, plans were very advanced, Toomey-Orr said.

“You never know what the future holds,” she said.

Her priority now is to be the best mother she can be and take things one step at a time.

What happens after that? “Let’s see what happens,” said Toomey-Orr.

Toomey-Orr loves body transformation

When Toomey-Orr first started CrossFit, she previously told Insider that she struggled with her increasingly muscular body for a while. Say you “really love” your body.

“My breasts have grown, my stomach has grown, my hips have grown,” she said. “But this is her one of the most incredible and special times of my life. I’m so lucky to be able to experience this.”

If she needs more body fat to keep her baby as healthy as possible, she won’t have any qualms about it and will be proud of her body.

Toomey-Orr said he likes the changes in his body.

“There are people in the world who may never have the chance to do this,” Toomey-Orr said. I accept the extra or excess weight I am putting on.”

Toomey-Orr believes that success as an athlete comes down to determination and the time and effort you put into it over the years. It remains important to her to stay active, healthy and fit, both for her own health and the health of her baby.

But with Toomey-Orr staying on the sidelines at the 2023 CrossFit Games, there will be plenty of athletes desperate to get, or at least borrow, her crown.
