FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A woman was murdered and set on fire in Fresno Tuesday afternoon, according to the Fresno Police Department.
Around 12:20 p.m., the Fresno Police Department received several 911 calls about someone burning in a 4400 block alley in North Cornelia, according to police.
Police say a maintenance worker associated with an apartment complex just north of the alley tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. Within minutes, firefighters arrived at 12:26 p.m. and pronounced the woman dead.
The identity of the woman is unknown, but police say she appears to be a black woman in her early 20s who is believed to be pregnant. It is not known at this time if she was set on fire before she was killed or if she was set on fire after she was killed.
The Fresno Fire Department is conducting a parallel investigation, and police say they have clear evidence that the facilitator was used to set the woman on fire.
