Pregnant Marissa Perez killed in ‘targeted’ drive-by attack

A 25-year-old pregnant woman in California was shot on her way to a birthday party after her family told her she was targeted at a drive-by.

News station ABC7 reported.

She was on her way to pick up a cake for her aunt’s birthday party when another car stopped next door and the driver opened fire, according to her mother.

Sandra Tolentino told ABC7 that her daughter, who was due in June, was shot multiple times, including in the head.

Perez was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead. Her fetus did not survive.

“She was 25 and was about to become a mother in five months. She was very happy,” Tolentino said. “I want justice for her daughter. I want justice for my grandson.”

Perez’s brother, Isaac Tolentino, told KTLA that his sister and her boyfriend are looking forward to welcoming the baby into the world.

“She was so excited and seemed like a whole new person,” he said. “I’ve never seen her sister shine like that.”

Marissa’s mother added that Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators do not believe the drive-by shooting that claimed Perez’s life was an act of chance.

“It wasn’t a coincidence. We know. It wasn’t a coincidence,” Tolentino said.

Perez’s family appealed to the public to release information about who took the life of her pregnant mother and of her baby.

“He doesn’t deserve to walk down this street,” Tolentino said of the gunman. “He should spend the rest of his life in prison.”
