The WNBA’s free agency opens at midnight and is already off to an interesting start as former Las Vegas ace star and WNBA champion Dearika Humby was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday, the league announced.
In the trade, the Aces acquired the rights to 6-foot-5-inch center Amanda Zahui B. from Sparks. Additionally, Ace will receive his second-round pick in Los Angeles in her 2024 WNBA Draft, and Sparks will receive her first-round pick in Las Vegas in 2024.
Humby was Las Vegas’ longest-serving player last season, winning 6th Player of the Year and a two-time All-Star Forward. The 6-foot-3 forward helped Ace win her first championship last season and announced her second pregnancy during the festivities. You can suspend her to give extra time if you want.
However, in an interview with Girls Talk Sports founder Christina Williams, Humby said her plans would come back. “I’m due in March… Will I be 100% by the start of the season? If everything goes according to plan, I’ll be pretty close to the start of the season,” she said.
On January 15th, she tweeted a message that appeared to express frustration at the treatment she was being treated by her longtime team.
The eight-year veteran is averaging 9.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in his career, but what makes the Humvee the most valuable is the invisible. Last season, she entered Game 1 of the Finals against the Connecticut Sun to help her ace while still recovering from her knee injury. She quickly made an impact on both sides of the ball.
Kurt Miller, Suns head coach at the time, said after Game 1: there is a mismatch. Nothing appears on her stat sheet as such, but her efforts soon create a mismatch in shifting to their advantage.
The ace was the San Antonio Stars when Humvee was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft. She famously sent Las Vegas to her WNBA semifinals for the first time in a decade with 2019’s “The Hamby Heave.” In her second-round playoff for her 2019 ace against Chicago she had a steal and her 35-foot shot in the closing stages of the game.
Zahui B. is averaging 6.2 points, 4 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 197 games in Tulsa, New York and Los Angeles. In her 1st season with the Sparks, she appeared in her 30 games (27 starts) and she averaged 9.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1 assist in 23.8 minutes per game.
“Dialika has dedicated her eight-year career to the organization and has played a major role in our success since the team moved to Las Vegas. We are grateful for her contribution to
