COLUMBUS, Ohio — Families mourn the death of a 21-year-old man who was shot dead at a gas station in West Columbus this week.
Andrew Combs and his pregnant girlfriend, Victoria Perez, just finished their Christmas shopping when they stopped at the Sunoco gas station at 2725 West Broad Street just before midnight on Tuesday. While waiting inside, Combs went inside.
An attempted robbery occurs and Combs is shot. He died at Grant Medical Center about an hour later.
“The last thing I saw was him coming out with an e-cigarette and being shot at least four times. I got out of the car and the suspect started running.”
“I held his hand. He kept saying, ‘I’m going to die, I’m going to die.’ He kept screaming, ‘I need help,'” Perez said.
One of the suspects identified and charged in the shooting is David Johnson III, according to Franklin County District Court records.
Johnson was mistakenly evicted from the Jackson-Pike Franklin County Correctional Center last month due to “human error,” according to a Franklin County judge.
18-year-old Kaiden Allen was also charged with the shooting, according to court documents. There are arrest warrants for both Allen and Johnson. A third suspect has not been identified.
Perez said Combs was a nice guy and he was taken away too soon.
“He showed me a love that I never received from any man. He loved our baby so much,” Perez said.
Perez said he plans to name the baby Kaiser, but will now name it after his father.
“His name will be Andrew Kaiser David Lee Combs,” Perez said.
Perez and community members stayed up all night for Combs at a gas station on Friday night.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Johnson or Allen is asked to contact Columbus Police.
